Human Trafficking 101

Human trafficking is a devastating crime that exploits individuals for financial gain by stripping them of their freedom, dignity, and basic human rights. Traffickers often use manipulation, deception, coercion, threats, violence, and abuse to control their victims for sexual exploitation, forced labor, or other inhumane conditions. Many victims are lured with false promises of safety, employment, love, or opportunity, only to become trapped in cycles of fear and exploitation.

This global crisis impacts millions of people worldwide and remains one of the fastest-growing criminal industries. Human trafficking thrives on vulnerability and silence, making awareness, prevention, advocacy, and survivor support essential in the fight to end exploitation and restore hope to those affected.

Sex Trafficking

Sex trafficking is a form of exploitation in which individuals are forced, manipulated, or coerced into commercial sex acts for the profit of others. It can occur through escort services, pornography, illicit massage businesses, brothels, online exploitation, and street-based solicitation.

Understanding Human Trafficking

Not all labor exploitation or commercial sex is trafficking. The crime of human trafficking must involve the use of force, fraud, or coercion.

Myths, Facts, and Statistics

Myth: Sex trafficking only happens in other countries or to strangers kidnapped off the street.

Fact: Trafficking occurs in communities everywhere, and many victims are manipulated by someone they know or trust.

Statistics show millions of people worldwide are affected by human trafficking, with women and children among the most vulnerable. Traffickers often use force, fraud, coercion, emotional manipulation, or false promises to exploit victims for profit. Awareness, prevention, education, and survivor support are critical in combating this growing global crisis.
